Weina Zhao

Weina Zhao is a director, writer and producer born in Beijing and brought up in Vienna with a strong interest in furthering the voices and narratives of people of colour and other marginalized groups. During her Master’s degree studies in sinology she worked for documentary productions in various positions (assistant director, production assistant, location manager, translator). Since 2014 she has been directing and writing her own film and radio projects. Her feature documentary debut Weiyena – The Long March Home (2020), co-directed with Judith Benedikt, won several awards for best documentary. She is currently writing her fiction feature film debut I Exist and the sci-fi essay documentary CAR.
